Bootcamp Curriculum
The Magic Circle Exam Bootcamp follows the proven 06 step system created by Magic Circle examiner. This bootcamp is designed to teach you actionable steps for building your act to a pass.
-
We'll kick off the Bootcamp by dissecting what makes exam ready material by walking you through my favourite framework to start sorting your repertoire to find your top 06 routines.
01
-
Instead of thinking about what examiners want to see, this session gets us thinking about what you want to share. You’ll answer specific questions that will help unlock presentations unique to you. We'll talk about how to re-evaluate your top 06 and narrow your search down to your top 03.
02
-
Now you have the routines and presentations, step 03 takes you through how to put them in the right order. Taking a basic string of tricks and turning them into a flowing act with a beginning, middle and end.
03
-
The act has been built. Before moving to full rehearsals it’s important to make sure technique isn’t leaky. Step 04 looks at prop management, efficient movement, flash limitation, framing, the magic moment, directing attention, and method choices. We’ll be covering the most common mistakes and shortfalls from exam entrants, and how to show examiners that you’ve thought carefully about your exam to help keep hold of as many marks as possible.
04
-
In this step we’ll break down how to rehearse with intent, and what questions you can be asking yourself to make the biggest improvements to your performance.
05
-
For good measure, in this final step we’ll be looking at how to give yourself the very best chance possible of making a pass. Topics covered include connection, use of voice, eye contact, script writing, listening, and play.
You’ll learn how to see your act through the eyes of director, critiquing your own work and giving yourself feedback.

Passed the exam first time
Matthew taught me more than just to pass the exam. It was a whole course in scripting, performing, stagecraft and new effects.
He helped and guided me to put together an act that had all the elements that I needed. It was an awesome experience and I passed my audition First Time!

I approached Matthew to help me try and pass The Magic Circle exam. Bottom line, due to Matthew’s coaching I passed.
Matthew coaching was amazing. He was patient and so easy to talk to and just has a knack of getting the best out of you (probably more than you thought you had inside).
10/10 for me.

I can’t guarantee you will pass your The Magic Circle exam, but if you follow the framework, attend all the sessions, complete all the homework assignments, and take your mock exam, you will have everything you need to achieve a pass. If anything is going to help get you a pass this is it, there is nothing else like it.
-
This will vary from person to person depending on their current level of proficiency in the areas within the framework. However, the more time you spend applying the knowledge from the program the sooner you will be in a position to pass.
-
Yes. The bootcamp includes 2 exclusive 1-1 sessions for each student over Zoom. The first session will be scheduled mid-way through the program to check-in and make sure everything is moving in the right direction. If you attend all the sessions, complete all the homework assignments, follow the framework, and apply the 1-1 feedback and still do not feel like you are in a better position to pass your The Magic Circle exam, you can have your money back.
-
All sessions will be recorded and made available to participants. That said, attending live is highly encouraged so you can receive direct feedback and ask questions in real time.
-
The group size is kept small in number to ensure everyone gets personalised attention, group feedback, and high-quality support throughout.
-
The principles and framework apply to both. Whether you’re preparing a close-up act, a parlour routine, or a small stage performance, the core focus is on building a structured, compelling, exam-ready act that reflects your strengths.
-
Absolutely. Every student will receive individualised feedback throughout the program—during live sessions, via the online community, and in your act health check 1-1 with Matthew.

If you can use Zoom and know how to post a video online, you’ll be fine. The tech side is simple and guidance will be given where needed.
-
You’ll have access to all the session recordings and course materials for at least 12 months after the program ends— plenty of time to review, revisit, and refine.
-
Homework will vary depending on your act, but expect a mix of rehearsal tasks, scripting work, and reflection exercises designed to sharpen your thinking and performance. Written scripts and video recordings will be required.
